The last of the Halibut
Although traveling for work can be exhausting, there are some definite perks to the lifestyle. Especially when it comes to sampling the local cuisine. The capital of British Columbia, Victoria, is one of my favorite places to visit especially in the autumn. The air is clean and crisp, the sun sets seemingly more quickly, but with a more orange hue, and the oysters are fresh and delicious. Paradise Cove oysters are medium sized, but not chewy like most oysters. These oysters seem to melt in your mouth and there is no briny taste, just a simple flavor of the ocean.
Normally I do not dine in hotel restaurants for fear of a terrible meal, however this trip was vastly different than I expected. Lure restaurant and lounge at the Delta VIctoria Ocean Pointe is a treat. The server was very knowledgeable about the local oysters and fish and recommended the halibut. The presentation of the dish was modern and fun with a variety of textures. Pan roasted halibut with a lime gelee, slightly spicy roasted corn, roasted red pepper mashed potatoes, and two healthy prawns. The different flavors were not only delicious, but surprising. I was a bit leery of the lime gelee, but combined with a bite of the halibut, the citrus works better than fresh squeezed lemon.
